Willa Jean Worthy

Willa Jean “Grandy” Worthy entered into heaven on February 3, 2017 at the age of 89.

Willa was born October 13, 1927 in Tyler, Texas to William Robert and Eugenia Theora Beall. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Cecil, Morris, Paul, Lou Verne and Robbie, along with her darling husband of 50 years Joseph William “Bill” Worthy.

Willa graduated Tyler Junior College and was a secretary at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana. She married the love of her life Bill Worthy on June 14, 1947. They moved to Oklahoma City with their two daughters, Debra Jean and Jo Lynn, in 1969.

Willa’s passions were her family (including her dogs Shoo-Shoo and Precious) and Duplicate Bridge. She made many dear friends throughout her bridge career, and achieved a “Diamond Life Master” in the American Contract Bridge League. Willa was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves, LSU Tigers and OKC Thunder. To her friends and family, she was a master of witty humor, a refuge of peace in difficult times and an eternally loving matriarch. She lived her final years peacefully with her family in Arcadia, Oklahoma.

Willa is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Alan Ashford, and Jo Lynn and Kevin Allen. She leaves behind grandchildren Drew, Alex, Sam, Mary Willa and Daniel. She lives in loving memory to her nieces and best friends Rose Mary Wilson, Beverly Mitchelson, her brother-in-law Jack F. Worthy and his wife, Norma, and many other nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The family would like to express their undying gratitude to Mercy Health and Hospice and especially to Codi, Patti, Katy, Betsy, Jeanetta and Susan. You helped us help her let go of this world and enter into her eternal home.

Memorial services will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, 7801 N.W. Expressway, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 11:00AM. Pastor Dan Maxwell will officiate.

A gathering will be held immediately after at Tommie’s Italian American Grill, 5516 W Memorial Road, OKC.

In lieu of flowers, Willa asked that donations be made to one of her favorite charities, The City Rescue Mission, PO Box 960021, Oklahoma City, OK 73196; or online at donate.cityrescue.org
