Vickie Lynn Sloan-Amey
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of with her kindness, strength, and unwavering love.
Vickie Lynn Sloan-Amey, born on November 11, 1952, in Hartford City, Indiana, left this world on July 13, 2024, in Harrah, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Robert Merchant and Ilene Gardner-Merchant. She was the eldest child of two. She grew up a happy childhood on a farm with her parents.
Vickie's journey through life was filled with diverse experiences and accomplishments. From her early days as a "daddy's girl" breaking gender norms and performed many tasks that were normally considered to belong to the strictly masculine gender as of that time period. To her time as a color technician at RCA Corporation and later driving over-the-road trucks, she displayed resilience and determination in all that she pursued. Her career path eventually led her to Farmer's Insurance, where she concluded her professional endeavors.
She eventually moved to Oklahoma with her mother and younger brother following soon afterwards. Both she and her brother shared a love for animals ( primarily horses) and over-the-road trucking.
Memories of Vickie will forever be intertwined with her love for animals, especially horses, and her passion for over-the-road trucking. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life such as gardening, being in nature, traveling, and cherishing moments with her family.
Vickie's proudest accomplishments revolved around her roles as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will continue to live on through those who knew her best.
In this time of grief, we find solace in knowing that Vickie passed away surrounded by loving family. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Merchant; her mother, Ilene Love; and her brother, Gary Merchant. Vickie is survived by her loving husband, Ralph Amey; her loving daughter, Leslie Stewart; and her grandson, SRA Forrest Williams.
As we say goodbye to Vickie in body but not in spirit, let us remember the light she brought into our lives and the love that will continue to guide us through the days ahead. May she rest in peace knowing she was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
