IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Irene
Hammack
April 2, 1948 – February 16, 2026
Memorial Service
Duncan Seventh-day Adventist Church
3:00 - 4:00 pm (Central time)
Shirley Irene Hammack, daughter of William Lloyd Lucas and Juanita Ruth Lucas, was born on April 2, 1948, and passed away on February 16, 2026, at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her son, Brent Hammack.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 57 years, Wilber L. Hammack, Jr.; her children, Sheryl Hammack and Mark Hammack; her four grandchildren, Daniel Clayton, Alan Clayton, Jonathan Clayton, and Alyson Clayton; her brother, William F. Lucas and his wife, Diana Lucas; her nephews, Russell and Robert Lucas; and many cousins.
Shirley loved music and played the accordion, piano, organ, and banjo. Over the years, she played for several churches, sharing her talent and love of worship. She had a deep love for God, for her family, and for her work at Duncan Regional Hospital. She especially loved sharing her knowledge of computer programming, though she often joked with Wilber that everyone’s eyes would glaze over when she tried to explain it. She would say it was so sad that most coworkers and friends had no idea what she was talking about, but she delighted in it nonetheless.
Shirley graduated from Bee County Junior College with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Data Processing. She always thanked her friend, Donna Hill, for talking her into attending classes together, a decision that shaped the course of her career.
As a youngster, Shirley lived in San Bernardino, California. When her father transferred to San Antonio, Texas, she later attended her senior year of high school at a boarding church school in Keene, Texas. It was there, in college, that she met Wilber and “received her MRS.” Shirley and Wilber made a home together for more than 57 years, living in Keene, Texas; Beeville, Texas; Greenville, Tennessee; Monument Valley, Utah; Juneau, Alaska; Altus, Oklahoma; and Duncan, Oklahoma. She spent the past 18 years working in the Information Technology department at Duncan Regional Hospital, where her greatest joy was helping the computer do all the tedious work so her coworkers could focus on more meaningful tasks.
Shirley was a dedicated student and teacher of the Bible. She loved Bible research and sharing what she learned with others. Her church family will miss her greatly. Her husband and children will miss her greatly. Her many, many friends will miss her. too.
She sleeps now and awaits the return of the Lord Jesus, when the dead in Christ will rise and meet the Lord in the air.
Blessed be the Lord.
