Rusty Sanders

May 11, 1969 — April 20, 2024

Oklahoma City

Rusty Sanders, born on May 11, 1969, to Marlene and Butch Sanders, departed from us on April 20, 2024, enveloped by the warmth of family and numerous cherished friends. Graduating from Putnam City West in 1987, Rusty left his mark through his active participation in various high school sports.

Renowned for his prowess in pool, Rusty was not only an exceptional player but also a delight to behold in action. His love for angling knew no bounds, whether navigating the serene waters in his modest Ram boat or exploring the vast lakes of Oklahoma aboard his formidable sprint boat.

However, it was in the pursuit of deer hunting that Rusty found his true calling. An annual participant in the prestigious Hugo handicap deer hunt, his mantle adorned with the testament of twelve mounted deer heads. A fervent supporter of OU Football and a dedicated aficionado of NASCAR, Rusty's enthusiasm for life was as boundless as his spirit for adventure.

Rusty's indomitable spirit and zest for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was a beacon of inspiration, his presence a catalyst for touching countless lives. In his unwavering pursuit of the next adventure, Rusty embodied the essence of resilience. He leaves behind a legacy of boundless courage and unwavering determination. Rusty Sanders: Unstoppable.

FUNNY STORY…. Rusty found a van online that was located in Seattle, Washington. He knew it had a ramp but no handicap controls to drive with. He also knew it was too nice of a vehicle to pass up. He had a friend fly with him to Seattle and without anyone knowing, especially his mom. He told the seller of the van while on a test drive (seller driving) that he wanted to stop at Walmart to buy a tennis racket. Little Did anyone know that he would be using that racket to drive 1983 miles back to Oklahoma.
