Robert L. Hawkins,  “Hawk”

Robert Lewis “Hawk” Hawkins, 86, passed away on February 6, 2017, at his home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born November 10, 1930 to Ed and Martha Hawkins in Etowah County, Alabama. Hawk was a Navy veteran of 22 years, after entering the Navy in February, 1948 at the age of 18. He served as Chief Electrician on many ships from coast to coast. His final service at sea was aboard a nuclear submarine. Prior to receiving his Honorable Discharge, Hawk served as ‘Outstanding Recruiter’ for the Navy in Decatur, Georgia. He received the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star and retired in February, 1970. Hawk then began his career as an independent Boiler Inspector for the insurance industry, from which he also retired. He was a member of the Masons for more than 50 years and a member of the India Shrine in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Hawk was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jeanette and his wife of 52 years, Eva. Of his union with Eva, he is survived by his sons, Steve (Marcy) Hawkins and Stan (Laurie) Hawkins and, grandchildren Diane (Lee) Edwards, Sally (Brandon) Lewis, Danny Hawkins and Kimberly Hawkins, all from Georgia. Hawk found love again in his friend of over 50 years and wife of more than 4 years, Joyce Jones, who survives him with her children Jeff (Lori) Jones, Jere Jones and Jennifer (Shawn) Jones, all from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

A memorial service, will full military honors, will be held Saturday, February 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Oklahoma City Cremation, 807 W. Wilshire Blvd, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73116.

Per his wish, his ashes will be scattered in the ocean at a later date.
