Nancy Margaret Leftwich

Nancy Margaret Leftwich, 84, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma died Thursday, March 3rd, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born June 24, 1931 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Robert Joel & Margaret Adine (Plato) Gambill.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Patrick of Oklahoma City; her granddaughter, Erica Parker and grandson-in-law, Joe Parker now living in Pittsburgh, PA. Two sons – Paul Scott and Jay Paul, preceded her in death.

She attended Hawthorne Grade School, Taft Junior High School, and Classen High School in Oklahoma City. She made many life-long friends during her school days, and she enjoyed her high school reunions through the years.

She attended Oklahoma University, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She remained active in the OKC Alum Club, earning the Arc with Diamond for her alumnae service, as well as being named Alpha Gamma Delta Woman of the Year.

She was a member of Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, Oklahoma City, and The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts (The Mother Church). Nancy was an active church member for many years, and drew much inspiration from her study of the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy.

Nancy retired from Hartford Insurance Company in 1993 after 20 years as a commercial insurance underwriter. She made many friends through her work and as a member of the ABWA. She frequently attended the Hartford Retirees luncheons.

Nancy was an avid reader and history buff, particularly when it came to the history of her family and her state. She was a member of the Oklahoma Historical Society, the First Families of the Twin Territories, and several other organizations. She especially enjoyed her volunteer work as a Docent with the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. She was very active at the Museum, leading tours, manning the Welcome Desk, working at the Chuckwagon event, and her favorite – the Prix de West Art Exhibition.  

Nancy was also, a regular volunteer in the copy room at Ralph Downs Elementary School, where her daughter Kay is a teacher.

Nancy loved her family and friends, as well as her “kitties” – Bandit and Dude. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed!

Her family will hold a memorial service and reception to follow on Friday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m in the S.B. “Burk” Burnett Board Room at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, 1700 N.E. 63rd, Oklahoma City. Her friends and family are welcome to attend this celebration of her life. If possible, please wear bright, “happy” colors – in accordance with her wishes.
