Mark Millen Newcomer

Mark Millen Newcomer, who lived hard, worked hard, and played hard, died June 14, 2023 of throat and esophageal cancer. He was 71.

Mark was born March 26, 1952, to Ruth and Forest Newcomer in Stillwater OK, the second of five children. He grew up with two sisters and two brothers in a house that was a hub for all the neighborhood kids.

Mark loved hot rods and motorcycles and had a horse named Be Somebody. He wrestled a little, played baseball a little, wrecked a few cars, broke a few bones, and was a lifelong frustrated fisherman.

All the Newcomers worked at their dad’s grocery store, the Stillwater Fruit Market. Mark went on to work as a carpenter and a handyman and could fix just about anything.

Mark had some bad breaks and made some bad choices, but he loved his family, loved his friends, and loved his garden. Loved his whiskey too. He was ornery, thoughtful, crusty, sweet, unreliable, devoted, and loyal.

Mark is survived by his siblings — Forest Ann,  Brett (Linda) and Breen (Jody), and Kate (David) — and cousins Jeff and Georganne. Mark’s wife, Aliza, predeceased him.

His nieces and nephews  — Megan and Darren, Trip, Michael and Anjelica, Ross, Melanie, Mitch, Jason, Hank, Jack, Madison, Taygen, Alexi, and Jacoby — adored their Uncle Mark.

No funeral is planned. The Newcomers plan to get together later this summer  to toast Mark, tell stories, laugh, cry, and laugh some more. Date TBD. Location probably at Hideaway, the original one, in Stillwater. Donations may be made to the Skydog Sanctuary.
