John Cory Latta was born December 22, 1981, in Shattuck, Oklahoma. On April 26th, Cory passed away at his home in Oklahoma City. He was 43 years old.
Cory was born in Shattuck but grew up in Woodward, graduating from Woodward High School in 2000. Cory loved to skate, and his favorite way to pass the time was playing video games and solving puzzles of all kinds. From boyhood, Cory loved Legos, and amassed a huge collection, which he still enjoyed. He was also a fan of Star Wars, naming his beloved dog Yoda because his ears looked like the loveable, little alien. Cory always had his own sense of personal style, exhibited by his extensive, brightly colorful shoe collection and his ever-present skull caps.
Cory, a longtime employee of Lowe’s in OKC, had learned to do almost every job there. His assignment for the past several years was supervising all the seasonal departments, from Christmas decorating to spring planting.
On April 11, 2015, Cory married Tracy Turner, and they have made their home in OKC for the past ten years.
Always loyal and kind-hearted, Cory was a gentle soul who will be forever missed by his family and friends.
Cory is survived by his husband Tracy Turner of OKC; his son Maclemore Jenkins of OKC; his parents Wally and Sonja Harrison of Woodward and Philip and Janene Latta of Canfield, OH; his sister Jessica Stout and husband Chaney Stout of Dallas, TX; nephews Rowe and Shepherd Stout and niece Mercer Stout; his loyal canine companions Yoda and Chloe, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Cooper Harrison.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory and honor of Cory be made to Mental Health Association Oklahoma.
