John Edward Wax

John Edward Wax, 69, of Oklahoma City , Oklahoma died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at his home following a lengthy battle with lung cancer. John was born May 18, 1945 in Tempe, Arizona to Joseph and Marvel Wax. He graduated from Bel Air High School in El Paso, Texas in 1964. He served three years in the United States Army in Vietnam, earning the Army Commendation Medal.

John earned an associate degree in science from Oscar Rose Junior College in Midwest City, Oklahoma and attended Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. He had an insatiable curiosity in the natural world which manifest itself as a love of horticulture, poultry, fishing  and stamp collecting. He worked in construction sales and was employed for many years at Cherokee Building Materials before retiring in 2009. He served as a deacon of the Cowboy Church in Jones, Oklahoma.

John is survived by his mother, Marvel Wax, of El Paso, Texa; his daughter and son-in-law, Gayleen and Ron Rabakukk, and his granddaughters, Annastacia and Fiona Langthorn, of Edmond, Oklahoma; as well as his sister, Deborah Lowther, of Memphis, Tennesee and his brother and sister-in-law, James and Melinda Wax of Whidbey Island, Washington.

John was also survived by Karla Golden Wax, who he married in February 2010, and Karla’s daughter and son-in-law, Krista and Joe Carroll, and grandchildren Lynn, Ashley, Shawn, Kortney and Trinity; as well as sister-in-laws Ginny Massion and Sue Aaron.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Mercy Hospice. During his treatment, John was well served by the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) transportation program. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16 at New Life at Calvary Church, 15119 S.E. 29th Street, Choctaw, Oklahoma with Pastor Joe Carter officiating.
