It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather "Pépére".

Born in Shediac Bridge, New Brunswick, Canada in 1945. The son of the late Gérard J. (Gérard a Joe) Gallant and Bertha (Roy) Gallant and preceded by his brother Gérard J. (Gérald) Gallant.

He is survived by his devoted wife Marie T. (Cormier) Gallant and 2 sons Dan (his wife Marcia), Rick (his wife Dorie) and his grandchildren Andrew, Michael, James and Anne. They will truly miss their "Pépére”.

Gaston, the eldest boy of nine children, grew up in Shediac Bridge, New Brunswick, Canada, where he helped his father cook countless lobsters at the family-owned Bay View Canteen (later renamed Bay View Diner) before it was sold in 1961 to the renowned Chez Leo Fried Clams.

Gus dedicated over 30 years to General Motors, a career that began in Framingham, Massachusetts and then took him to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Oklahoma City. He found his most fulfilling time with General Motors working in Detroit as a quality engineer.

After retirement, Gus, an avid outdoorsman, lived life to the fullest and spent his time fishing and hunting, loving nothing more than digging for palourde clams and relaxing by the water with a cold Canadian beer. At the hunting camp he was known as a skilled marksman nicknamed “Lucky” and served as the camp cook – a role he fully embraced. All who knew him will always remember the laughter and the stories they shared over the years. He also enjoyed watching “Oak Island” on the Discovery Channel and never missed an episode.

His sons, Dan and Rick, and his grandchildren will also forever cherish the memories of playing cribbage, hunting and fishing with him. The memories they made will always be treasured.

Gus will be remembered for his quick wit, humor, and his ability to make friends and family laugh; he was never without a joke. While many of us struggle to keep track of our own phone number, Gus often joked that he never forgot his because it was his birthday. He also deeply treasured a special photo from 1964 that he carried with him at all times. He would occasionally pull it out for certain individuals and say “Hey, don’t I look like Buddy Holly?” and only putting it away after they agreed. It was one of the many quirks that made him unforgettable.

He is survived by 2 brothers, August Gallant (his wife Pauline), Rolland Gallant and 5 sisters, Marie Melanson (her husband Ron), Dolores Beliveau (her late husband Jean-Paul) Cécile Gallant (former spouse Raymond Drisdelle, father of her children), Patsy Allain (her husband Ronnie) and Jacinthe Bourque (her husband Frank), and Simonne LeBlanc (former spouse of the late Gérard J. (Gérald) Gallant and mother of his children).

He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and countless cousins across Canada and the United States, joined through his passion for family history. Additionally, he treasured his in-laws and loved sharing his famous homemade clam chowder at family gatherings, creating fond memories over a shared meal.

Gus also had a passion for genealogy and often shared his research to help others discover their family heritage. He wished to extend his deepest and heartfelt thanks to his sister-in-law Martha Jones and niece Karen Bridges for their kindness, support, and unwavering dedication in bringing our families together was a true blessing.

Gaston’s “Gus” legacy lives on in memories of his humor, laughter, and stories we share, as well as, in the hearts of everyone he touched.
