Gary Charles Johnston passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026 at the age of 87 in Oklahoma City. Born July 29, 1938 in Oklahoma City to Maxine and Charles Johnston. Gary graduated from Classen High School and attended Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. Gary was never afraid of hard work, he started his illustrious career throwing papers at 11 years of age. His home building career started in 1958 working along side his father-in-law, Luke Frank. Gary was a highly regarded home builder and a past president of the Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association.

Gary was a generous and loyal friend to many, a well respected man in the community and always an immaculate dresser. He married Karel Frank in 1958 and had three sons. Gary enjoyed numerous business adventures in several states and Canada, creating lifelong friendships along the way. Gary loved automobiles and always had the latest and greatest cars. Gary met and married Mari Jayne Kirk in 1972 and enjoyed 41 fantastic years together traveling the word and having fun in their second homes at Lake Tahoe and Santa Fe. In 2016 Gary married Christine Moore who provided loving support for his final 10 years. Fishing was a passion, never passing up a great trip with buddies and family to some of his favorite places; Colorado, Alaska, Montana, Mexico and Argentina. Gary took his sons on dozens of great trips throughout Colorado skiing and fishing. They would load up in an old jeep for a week at a time with a tent and a raft, camping along the way on some great expeditions.

Gary is survived by his wife Christine and her family. His three sons: Doug & wife Shelly their children; Jesse and wife Rebecca, Megan and husband Tim Wahl and great grand son River, Chase and Lindsay. Son Jay and wife Kristi their children; Brian and wife Stephanie, Mary Claire and husband Josh Offield, and Charlie. Son Craig and wife Erin their children; Luke and Frances and great grand son Lane, Henry and Edward. His also survived by his dear sister Dee Hessel and her children Phil and Ashley.

Gary will be deeply by missed his family and many friends. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
