Elnora Virginia Hunt

June 29, 1922 — March 1, 2024

Elnora Virginia Hunt died peacefully in the presence of loved ones at her home in Midwest City on March 1, 2024. Born June 29, 1922 to Isaac Washington and Ada Viola Barnes in the small Oklahoma town of Haileyville, Nora lived for over a century, never losing her curiosity about the world or her joy for life.

Her hunger for books was legendary. Even in her 90s she would often read a book per day, exhausting local libraries' stock in her favorite categories. She loved biography and true crime genres the most, but also loved history and anything that revealed more about the human condition. She was an avid film and television buff, and always kept up with current affairs.

In her home friends could always find an inspiring collection of artifacts from her many travels. England, France, Switzerland, Egypt, Russia and Spain were a few of the countries she toured with her sister Ruth Viola Barnes, who was just one of Nora's seven siblings. Carl Barnes, Sudie Mae Conner, Charles W. Barnes, Hazel Barnes, Orville Barnes and Ollie Barnes complete the list, all of whom Nora outlived.

Nora was married twice. First to Robert Wittenbeck, with whom she had her first daughter Melody. Her second marriage to Drexel Hunt, gave her a second daughter Judy. Nora is survived by her son-in-law Phillip Cole, her nephew Charles Barnes Jr., her neices Frances Petersen and Carol Ann Smith, as well as her grandchildren Kobie Cole, Matthew Cole, Angela Miller and Shane Warren, great-nephew Charles "Mack" Barnes, and her great-grandchildren, Cameron Warren, Avery Miller, Zachary Michael, Alyssa Warren, Xavier Warren, Laeshen Reynolds and LaKota Reynolds.

Even 101 years were not enough for her family, all of whom will continue to love and miss her.
