Obituary

David Douglas Watters transitioned suddenly from his earthly life on May 18th, 2026. David was born in Oklahoma City on February 22, 1956. He’s preceded in death by his parents, Donald Purdy Watters and Patricia Ann Thurman Watters. David leaves behind a spouse, Marcy Roberts; his sister, D’Ann Burger; his brother, Mike Watters, wife, Tiffany Watters; nephews Zane Watters and US Navy Chief Petty Officer Michael Burger and wife Melissa; niece Kim Parker Lowe and great-nieces Haley Parker and Annaka Parker and great-nephew Ryan Parker.

David grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Putnam City High School’s class of 1974, then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from Oklahoma City University. David discovered a love of the outdoors in Boy Scouts and enjoyed hiking and camping any time he found a serene setting. In the late 1980’s, he moved to Phoenix, AZ, where he lived for 20 years, working as a concierge for international photographers and as a props man for the film industry. He loved the landscape of the desert and experiencing the Native American culture that is so prevalent in Arizona. David was a lifelong artist, instilling creativity into every task he performed. One of his first jobs was working for Scissortail Foundry in Oklahoma City where he was tasked with pouring the Bronze Panther mascot for Putnam City North High School, which still stands in their foyer. He was a painter, sculptor, photographer, musician, armchair philosopher, builder, and craftsman. For most of his career, he worked in crisis services, helping people and businesses rebuild after being affected by natural disasters, fires, and floods. For the last ten years of his working life, he hung out his shingle as a Handyman. David could fix anything and used his enormous creativity to tackle each task put to him, priding himself in making his clients' lives better, no matter how small the job.

David was a generous and caring partner, brother, and uncle who loved his family immensely. He was the kindest of souls, who listened intently and charmed everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
