David Bryan Smiddy peacefully ascended to heaven at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City on April 21st 2026. Born on November 10, 1962, in Houston, Texas to Fred, Jr. and Agatha (Roberts) Smiddy, David’s journey through life was marked by steadfast devotion, humor, and an unwavering willingness to help others. David grew up in Duncan Oklahoma. At the age of 20, he moved to Porter, Oklahoma where he married Lisa Adams. In his early career David was a welder, continuing a long family tradition. David found his true calling as a draftsman for the DP Winch Company in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where he worked for 22 years before retiring. In 2019 David moved from Tullahasse, Oklahoma to East Logan County, Oklahoma where he settled on a quiet piece of country and enjoyed gardening and the wildlife with his niece Kendra.
David was a talented artist, craftsman, and inventor. He preferred to repair something over buying a new one. He could fix anything, especially if it required duct tape and super glue. His art was whimsical, his humor witty, and his soul gracious. He loved and valued family above all else and reveled in narrating stories of family history. David loved life, loved people, and was greatly loved by his family and friends.
David leaves behind his two sons and their families; Robert (Heather) Smiddy of Owasso, Oklahoma and Samuel Smiddy of Bono, Arkansas; grandchildren Ashton, Emalee, Averly, and Kamden; sisters Rebecca (Charlie) Scott of Yukon, Oklahoma and Cathy (Dieter) Gauthun of Duncan, Oklahoma; nephews Eric Dunn, Jeromy Smiddy, Dean Gauthun, and Andrew Smiddy; nieces Kendra Dunn and Kelly Gauthun; fourteen great nieces and nephews, and three great-great nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his mother and father; grandparents Fred Sr. (Jesse) Smiddy, Eugene (Lola) Roberts; sister Sandra and husband JB Dunn; brother Gerald Smiddy; nephew Christoper Scott, and great niece Bella Gauthun.
In the spirit of the Smiddy Irish ancestry it is fitting to close David’s story with an Irish Proverb – “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal."
