Oklahoma City

CLARK D. JOHNSTON, a retired Chief Construction Inspector for the City of Oklahoma City, died in Oklahoma City, OK, on May 7, 2025, after a brief illness. He had recently turned 66.

Clark was born at Loring Air Force Base near Limestone, ME, to Jimmie and Carolyn (Sproll) Johnston on April 29, 1959. He was their third son.

His childhood included many moves because of his father’s U.S. Air Force career. He attended junior and senior high school in Altus, OK, graduating in 1977. He completed two years of study at Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of the bowling team. He also became a professional bowler with multiple perfect 300 Games.

In 1991, he began a career with the City of Oklahoma City, holding multiple positions in the construction field and advancing to become the Chief Construction Inspector in 2014. Clark retired in 2016 following a complication from surgery that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

Unwilling to retire from life, Clark accomplished extensive rehabilitation with the full-time support from Sandra Bradford, regaining significant mobility, and they became volunteer staff members and “foster parents” with Red Dirt Boxer Rescue.

He became a Master Mason in the Freemasons in 2012. As an active member, he attained the 32nd Degree, participated with the Guthrie Scottish Rite, and was a member of the Altus SWOKIE (Southwest Oklahoma) Parade Unit. Most recently, he was a member of the Siloam Lodge 276 in Oklahoma City, OK.

Clark was preceded in death by his older brother, Mark Johnston, who died in infancy, and an infant daughter, Amber Johnston.

His survivors include two sons, Joshua Johnston (Diana) of Lewiston, ME, and Jordan Johnston (Heather) of Oklahoma City, OK; older brother Marlon Johnston (Maryanne) of Wichita, KS; primary caregiver for the last nine years Sandra Bradford of Oklahoma City, OK; three grandchildren, three nieces, and many cousins.

A public Masonic Service and fellowship time will be held on May 29, 2025, at 2:00 pm and is being hosted at the Siloam Lodge 276, 4201 NW 39th St, Oklahoma City, OK.
