Bernadette "Stambeck" Hazlewood

Bernadette "Stambeck" Hazlewood, 68, of McAlester, OK, passed away peacefully on May 16th, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. Born on August 21st, 1956, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Cecilia and Louis Stambeck, Bernadette was raised in Krebs, OK, and graduated from McAlester High School. In 1979, she earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Oklahoma and dedicated nearly 40 years to her career as a compassionate nurse at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Bernadette is remembered for her kindness and caring nature, which she demonstrated throughout her long career in nursing. Before falling ill, she enjoyed traveling the world, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her three grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Shawn Hazlewood of Albuquerque, NM; her daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Chris Thompson; and her grandchildren, Ethan, Andrew, and Cecilia Thompson of Oklahoma City. Her siblings include Phil and Lisa Stambeck of Norman, Anthony Stambeck and Dennis Stambeck of Krebs, Diane Sears of Tulsa, and Donald and Penny Stambeck of Jacksonville, FL. Her nieces and nephews are Shelby and Jacob MacKinnon of Jacksonville, FL, and Peyton and Brianna Stambeck of Indianapolis, IN. Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents, Cecilia and Louis Stambeck.

A funeral Mass will be held to celebrate Bernadette's life on June 7th, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Krebs, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Krebs, OK. Click here to donate.
