Ann Louise Mcdonough (Brennan)

Ann Louise (Brennan) McDonough, recently of Port Orange, FL, passed away peacefully with family at her side on August 4, 2018.  She was born on March 17, 1938 in Endicott, NY to Mae M. and Joseph Leo Brennan, and graduated from Union Endicott High School.  Growing up, she made memories working with cousins and friends at her Aunt Florence’s theater in Union, NY and at Oquaga Lake’s Aqua Lodge in Deposit, NY. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Education from Misericordia College in Dallas, PA, and later in life, after moving to Massachusetts, a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Framingham State College. After working as the Activitiy Director for Colony Retirement Home in Worcester, and as teacher/librarian in the Oxford school district she spent the largest part of her career as the librarian for the Auburn Middle School. She loved historic New England and enjoyed living in Westborough (where she raised her two children), and later in Grafton. She and her children made annual summer trips back to Oquaga Lake in upstate New York and winter trips to Greek Peak Ski Area in Cortland, NY with her immediate and extended family and lifelong friends. Ann retired from Auburn Public schools in 2004 and moved to Port Orange FL where she enjoyed golf, tennis, gardening, and travel with her sister, brother-in-law, and new cherished friends. Her love for history kept her active as a docent at Gamble Place Historic District. She continued to serve as an educator tutoring Daytona Beach elementary students Math and English.

Ann was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter Rhea of Oklahoma City, OK and son Tom of Amherst, MA.  She loved and adored her grandchildren, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Joshua, and her faithful grand-dog, Finley.  She strived to pass along her love for literature and zest for culture through books and film and made frequent trips to Oklahoma City where she poured out her love on her cherished grandchildren. She had many multifaceted interests being a voracious reader, a sports enthusiast (especially of the New England Patriots and tennis player Rafael Nadal), and lover of travel.  Some of her favorite trips included a Shakespeare theater course in England, a golf tournament in Ireland, a cruise through the Greek isles, visits to St. Thomas and St. Maarten, and visiting Disney World with her grandchildren.   She loved antiques, watching movies, reading novels set in faraway locations, and sipping Uncle Andy’s homemade elderberry wine at Oquaga Lake or a merlot on ice at Greek Peak.  Antique shopping in her younger days with close family and bargain shopping throughout the Daytona Beach area with cherished friends were favorite pastimes of hers.   Ann was very grateful for the wonderful relationships she developed through golf and tennis, her book club, church choir, and the Crane Lakes and Our Lady of Hope communities.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Rhea and Mike Siatkowski, and their three children; her son Tom McDonough; her sister and brother-in-law Mary Jane and John Mitchell of Parrish, FL, two nieces, a nephew, and several grand-nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She will truly be missed by all her friends and family for the joy for life and the love for others that she brought to her time on earth.   Funeral service will be held this Monday, August 13, 8:30 AM at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Port Orange, FL. Reception to follow at Crane Lakes club house.
